Texas Drops Raiders 6-3

No. 14 Texas snapped <b>Tech's 22-game home win streak</b> on Saturday with a 6-3 victory at Dan Law Field.

Texas (16-5, 2-3) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning racking up five hits on Tech starter Steve Gooch.

The Raiders (16-8, 1-4) answered in the bottom half of the inning when sophomore Brent Fossum bashed a solo home run.

Tech stranded four runs over the next four innings while falling behind 5-1 during a two-run burst by Texas in the fourth inning.

The Raiders pulled within two in the bottom of the sixth on a two-RBI single by Joel Buchenauer, but it wasn't enough to rally past Texas.

Longhorn Justin Simmons improved to 5-0 on the year after allowing three earned runs on nine hits.

Gooch suffered the loss for Tech and fell to 2-2 on the year. He surrendered four earned runs on 10 hits in his 6 1/3 innings of work.

Tech and Texas will play the rubber match of the series tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Dan Law Field.
