"I love everything about Tech," said Coffman, who chose the Red Raiders over New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas A&M. "I love the coaching staff, the city of Lubbock and the campus. Tech is the perfect fit for me."
Coffman averaged 25 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals this season, while leading his team to the Texas Class 5A state semifinals.
"We really stepped it up as a team in the playoffs," said Coffman. "I was happy with my performance this season, but I still have lots of room for improvement."
Coffman said his decision was unaffected by Tech's first-round loss to Southern Illinois in the NCAA Tournament.
"I was really disappointed that Tech lost," said Coffman, who owns a 4.7 GPA on 6.O scale and will take the ACT for the first time in April. "I actually picked them to make the 'Sweet Sixteen,' but I guess upsets happen every once in awhile."
Coffman also said he's excited about playing for Bob Knight.
"This is a dream come true," said Coffman. "Coach Knight has a great sense of humor and makes men out of his players. It's just a tremendous honor to get the opportunity to play for such a well respected coach.
"I'll do whatever he wants me to do. If he needs me to redshirt, I will, and if he wants me to step in and play right away, I will."
Until then, Coffman will focus his efforts on a sensational senior campaign and state championship next season.
"I've got a lot left to accomplish," said Coffman. "But then again, I'm also really excited about being a Red Raider."
