Asked if it feels good to get the recruiting process over with, the fastest-rising prospect in the Scout.com State Rankings, said, "Yes it does. It's been worth it and to see each school and what they have to offer."
Mitchem is kind of in a grey area when it comes to where he will play once he gets on the field. "They [the staff] said they're recruiting me as a safety. If I get bigger they might move me to outside linebacker or leave me at safety." Either way, Mitchem is a wonderful addition to the Red Raider defense.
Previously, Mitchem told us that location didn't matter, but that is ultimately what it came down to. "Well, at first, location wasn't important. As I was thinking about it more I started thinking that my family can see me play in Texas. At Arizona State if we had an away game in Washington, they couldn't come see me. I decided to stay in Texas so they could see me more."
Mitchem, who had been recruited by Coach Dana Holgorsen, called Recruiting coordinator Dennis Simmons to tell him the good news. "Yes he was [excited]. He said it's good to have you as part of the family. They also told me they aren't going to recruit anybody else at my position. If the others commit, that's fine, but they won't bump me down or anything."
The Tech family is currently floating on Cloud Nine after reeling in one of the top Greater Houston Area athletes (#40 in the state overall), not to mention their fist safety commitment, one they had to have.
Welcome to the Red Raider family, Franklin!
