Wildcats Drop Tech 5-1

Kansas State's Kevin Melcher gave up just three hits through six innings and Franco Pezely hurled three perfect innings to stop <b>Tech</b> 5-1 on Sunday at Dan Law Field.<p> <br>

Kansas State (18-13, 5-4) scored the game's first run on Pat Maloney's single right field in the first inning.


The Wildcats extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth on a leadoff home run by Tim Doty and wild pitch by Tech starter Nathan Fouts, which scored Gabe Luttrell from third.


Senior shortstop Gera Alaverz rallied Tech (25-15, 8-10) with a solo home run in the fourth. His blast extended Alvarez's hitting streak to 21 games.


Kansas State added an insurance run in the seventh and eighth innings, which included a solo home run by Gabe Luttrell.


Kevin Melcher (5-1) picked up the win for Kansas State, while Fouts (5-5) suffered his fourth straight loss.
