Guns Up Kids Has Successful First Year

Back in June I decided it would be a good idea to try and raise some money to purchase as many Texas Tech football season tickets as I could to give to local charities in the Lubbock area. I enlisted the help of the community, and they responded brilliantly.

We were able to raise $1211 this year which allowed us to purchase 12 season tickets for the 2005 Red Raider football season. Each week I take the tickets down to one of the many charities in Lubbock, who then distribute them to children they are working with who could use a litte something extra in their lives.

For Texas Tech's first home game against Florida International, I gave the 12 tickets to the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization. They sent out an e-mail to all of their members telling them about the tickets and every one of them was spoken for by the end of the day. I spoke with the director of the organization and she said that the kids were very excited about going to the game and ended up having a great time.

I also purchased a disposable camera that I gave to them along with their tickets so they could take some pictures while at the game. Here are the pictures from the Florida International game:

Next week's tickets for the game against Sam Houston St. went to the Methodist Children's Home in Lubbock, TX. I will post the pictures taken by them sometime nest week.

Thanks again to all of those who helped out by donating and/or spreading the word. It really means a lot to these kids to be able to go a Texas Tech football game. For many of these children, this is their first time going but hopefully not their last.
