Slay set the tone when he blindsided Gordon and forced a fumble on a punt. The mood of the defense was never the same after that hit. He filled on run support and was very mobile throughout the game. Slay was impressive in his coverage giving any receiver that he was up against a tough time. He didn't allow any big plays and helped lead the defense, holding the Jayhawks to an impressive 271 yards of total offense.
The defense was continually put into tough situations due to mishaps with the offense, and always rose to the occasion shutting out the Jayhawks in the first half. This Red Raider defense looked very fired up and made many big plays to keep Kansas down during the second half. We believe Dwayne Slay taking a leadership role was a big reason this defense stayed intense. It seemed to us that the rest of the defensive players fed off of Slay's passion as well as the crowd.
Congratulations, Dwayne Slay, for walking away with the RaiderPower.com's player of the game! Thanks for working hard, bringing the wood, and being a Red Raider!
