This pass-rushing force inked a letter-of-intent with Tech on National Signing Day in February. He's a full-qualifier, who's expected to step in and make an immediate impact on Tech's defensive line.
As a senior, Edwards recorded 92 tackles last season for Dayton, which made the playoffs and finished 7-5. He also tallied five sacks, 15 quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and an interception.
He selected Tech over Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Louisiana State, Missouri, Iowa, Tulsa, Georgia and Baylor.
Tech is recruiting several of Edwards' Dayton teammates, who will be seniors next season, including offensive tackle Kharilake Martin, tailback/linebacker Lamar Mitchell, safety Kendrick Wilson, cornerback Calvin Davis and tight end/safety Lloyd Ligons.
Emfinger's Evaluation: "Joseph's strength is his relentless ability to attack the ball. He plays the counter and trap very well and cannot be base blocked. He's too strong. He also has extremely long arms which help him get away from offensive linemen."

TE: How are your workouts progressing?
JE: "I'm doing lots of running and lifting in preparation for two-a-days at Tech. I'm maxing 390 (pounds) on the bench and 555 (pounds) on squat. I've also lowered my forty time to 4.8."
TE: What's your weightlifting regiment?
JE: "I lift on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and run Monday through Friday. Trust me, it's a grueling workout schedule."
TE: When do you plan to move to Lubbock?
JE: "My last day here (Dayton) will be the 4th of July. After that, I'll be in Lubbock."
TE: Besides football, you also compete in track-and-field, how's your season progressing?
JE: "I just won the district championship in shotput and discus last week, which qualifies for me regionals. I didn't make state in either event last year, but my goal is to qualify in both this year."
TE: How do you feel about your decision to attend Tech?
JE: "I'm very excited, because it's really a tremendous opportunity for me to attend a great school, while excelling on the football field."
TE: Have you been in contact with Tech's coaching staff lately?
JE: "Yes, I've spoken with Coach (Ruffin) McNeill about the upcoming season several times. We're both really excited about this year's potential."
TE: What are your expectations for next season?
JE: "I expect to move up the charts really quick and be running with the first- or second-string all season."
TE: Tech is recruiting several of your Dayton teammates, who will be seniors next season, what are your thoughts on these players?
JE: "I could definitely get Kharilake (Martin) to come to Tech, because we're close and he's looked up to me over the years. He respects my opinion and listens to what I have to say. The other guys, Lamar (Mitchell), Kendrick (Wilson), Calvin (Davis) and Lloyd (Ligons), also value my opinion."
TE: Of the players you just mentioned, who impresses you the most?
JE: "Probably Lloyd, because he worked so hard as a young pup and provided us with a big lift last season. He adapts well and makes plays."
