Lady Raiders fall to LSU, 76-68

LSU's 3rd-ranked Lady Tigers edge out #13 Tech in season opener

Despite owning a slight lead at halftime, the #13 Lady Raiders fell to #3 LSU on Sunday in the Tip-Off Classic. The Lady Raiders had plenty of opportunities to win the game, but a scoring drought midway through the second half prevented them from pulling out the win.

The Lady Tigers were lead by Seimone Augustus, who had 32 points and 13 rebounds in the game. The score was tied at 62 with about three minutes remaining when Augustus took over, scoring 9 of her team's 14 points.

Senior LaToya Davis led the Red Raiders in scoring with 21 points. LaToya also added 13 rebounds and 2 steals on the night. Alesha Robertson added 17 points and 8 boards. Freshman guard LaVonda Henderson scored 11. All-Big 12 first team point guard Erin Grant had 10 points and 9 assists and pulled down 6 boards.

The Lady Raiders were only 4-19 (.211) from outside, a statistic that will have to improve as the year goes on. Despite the loss, it was encouraging to see Tech play well against a taller, more aggressive team. The Lady Raiders were effective in exploiting LSU's weaknesses and kept themselves in a position to win all night. Going through a tough loss so early in the season should help focus and improve the Lady Raiders.

Next up, the Lady Raiders face SE Missouri State at 8:00 on November 18 in the United Spirit Arena. They then travel to play at Rice on November 21.
