Steven Harris Is Tech's Newest Committment

The Red Raiders have been building an excellent recruiting class this year, and this weekend it got better with the committment of Hebron HS safety Steven Harris.

The Red Raiders have been after some big time high school players to help replenish the thin safety position at Texas Tech, and they found just that in Steven Harris from Hebron High School, who gave them his verbal commitment.

Harris had many different options to choose from before he finally decided on Texas Tech. "I was offered by Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma, nearly all the Big 12 schools. There were also some Big 10 schools after me like Wisconsin and Iowa."

One of the biggest reasons for Steven deciding on Tech is because of the opportunity to come in and play right away for the red and black. "The coaches told me I have a really good shot of coming in and playing early. They are recruiting me mainly as a safety and since they are losing both of their starting safeties this year, I have a real good chance of getting some early playing time."

Although safety is the primary position Texas Tech recruited Harris for, they will also be looking at him to play wide receiver as well. Steven is a very versatile athlete and could be a tremendous help on either side of the ball as well as special teams.

Academically, Steven Harris is all set to go. He has already fully qualified
