Tech is Sitting #1 With Top Safety Prospect

With both Vincent Meeks and Dwayne Slay finishing up their eligibility as Red Raiders after the Cotton Bowl, there will be a void to fill come next season. Texas Tech is looking to pick up a few safeties to add to their roster with this recruiting class, and Daniel Johnson is at the top of the list.

Strong safety Daniel Johnson (6-3, 200, 4.55) from Houston Spring Woods (Tex.) says he has around 15 scholarship offers, but favors Texas Tech solid over Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Arkansas.

Johnson took his official visit to Texas Tech on November 18. "It's a really nice environment," Johnson said. "It's relaxing and I like how everything revolves around the university. I liked just hanging out with the players and my friend Catron Houston is a wide receiver there. They are definitely recruiting me the hardest. We keep in contact like 24/7."

Johnson will be visiting Oklahoma State on January 13 and A&M on January 21. "I have friends that go to A&M and that was the school I used to watch. They are only about an hour away, so everyone here is an Aggie fan.

"I really want playing time and that's gonna be the big thing for me," Johnson said. "I'm taking my time and don't plan to commit early."

He reports a 2.3 GPA and is waiting on his results from the December 10 SAT.
