Hewitt and Shankle Opt For Red Raiders

Texas Tech is getting close to rounding off this year's recruiting class and they wanted to finish it off on a high note. The Red Raiders did just that by picking up committments from two highly sought after players.

The Lufkin duo of Leonard Hewitt and E.J. Shankle wanted to play together after they finished their high school careers. Now that the playoffs are over, Hewitt and Shankle both started devoting a lot of time to picking out the right school for the both of them. They found just that in Lubbock, TX.

"E.J. and I committed to Texas Tech today" said Hewitt. "Everything about the school just seemed like a perfect fit for us."

The biggest factor in them choosing Tech was that they could both play for the same team and also play for a program that is on the rise. Texas Tech's recent 9-2 season accompanied with their birth in the Cotton Bowl to play against Alabama, has paid huge dividends in the recruiting world. Everyone is starting to take notice that Tech isn't just a flash in the pan program but that Mike Leach is building something special down on the South Plains.

"Texas Tech is a program on the rise and I want to be a part of that" said Shankle. "I think I can come down and contribute early and help continue moving the program in the right direction."

Lufkin High School is always producing top quality football players, so hopefully the signing of McKinner Dixon last year as well as Hewitt and Shankle this year will open up a pipeline for the Red Raider staff to pull players from their on a regular basis.
