"I committed to Texas Tech," said Howard. "It just felt right to me. It was the best situation for me as far as playing time, who's leaving, who's coming back as far as linebackers."
Howard, who looks to play outside backer at Tech, said the distance from Dallas to Lubbock was also a plus.
"It's about 5 1/2 hours from Dallas so my parents can come to the games," said Howard.
This season, Howard was first team all-District 6-5A on defense, second team all-District on offense, and was named honorable mention AP Texas All-State. He racked up 107 tackles in 2005, including 10 for loss with seven sacks, along with seven forced fumbles and two interceptions.
The Nimitz High difference maker scored 12 TDs, piling up 300 yards in kickoff returns, with one going for 100 yards and a score. As a situational h-back, he cranked out 250 yards rushing plus had 210 receiving yards.
