Tech Blows Past Baylor, 79-61

Junior Jay Jackson leads the Red Raiders to first conference victory of the season.

Baylor was able to keep the game close for the first 15 minutes, due in large part to the play of sophomore point guard Aaron Bruce, but the Red Raiders proved to be too much for the untested Bears in their season opener.

Jarrius Jackson led all scorers with 22 points. Martin Zeno followed with 21, and Jon Plefka added 12. Zeno also had 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals in the game.

True freshman Dior Lowhorn made a big contribution off the bench, scoring 11 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in just 20 minutes. Lowhorn's double-double marks the first of his career as a Red Raider.

Tech out-rebounded Baylor 42-23 and pulled down 15 offensive boards. The Red Raiders also took better care of the ball, committing only 10 turnovers on the night.

Up next for the Red Raiders are the Iowa State Cyclones, who are currently tied with the Red Raiders in the Big 12 standings at 1-1. The two squads match up Saturday in Lubbock at 11:00 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN.
