Raider Nation Mourns Loss of Assistant Coach

Defensive backs coach Dave Brown passed away earlier this week from an apparent heart attack.

The Red Raider defensive backs coach passed away from a heart attack Tuesday afternoon at the age of 52. Coach Dave Brown had been with the emerging Red Raider program since 2001 working with the cornerbacks on the roster.

Dave Brown graduated from Michigan where he was twice named an All-American defensive back. After graduation he began a sixteen year long career with the Steelers, helping his team to a victory in Super Bowl X. He then moved to Seattle to complete his amazing eleven year career with the Seahawks.

When Coach Brown made the decision to move to Division 1-A football in the Big 12 with the Red Raiders he moved to Lubbock and we have all seen what an impact he has been to the success of the defense and how pivotal he was to the success of the players he came into contact with.

The coach was not bashful about his faith, holding weekly Bible study classes for athletes. And we are able to rest in the fact that Coach Brown was confident in his belief of God and is with Him now. His presence both on and off the field will be greatly missed by his players and fellow coaches alike.

Coach Brown is survived by his wife, Rhonda and two sons, Sterling and Aaron.
