Jerrod Gooch Would Fill a Need

With the loss of starting offensive linemen EJ Whitley and Bryan Kegans this year and losing three more starters after next year, the Red Raider coaching was able to reel in the #8 OL class in the country to help out. They are looking to repeat that success on Singing Day 2007.

There is always a lot of pressure placed on high school kids who have the ability to play college football at the next level. They are constantly having coaches call them and talking about their respective programs, as well as friends and family who have their opinions on where they should go.

Although the pressure is always going to be there, it can be an exciting time as well. Vidor, TX offensive lineman Jerrod Gooch, one of the top linemen in the state, is beginning to feel this very way.

"It's getting exciting with everyone recruiting me. I can already feel the pressure that everyone says comes along with looking for the right school," said Gooch.

When we last spoke with Jerrod he was planning on deciding between Texas Tech and Texas to spend his college years. Have things changed now that his recruitment is picking up?

"My top 2 schools are still Texas and Texas Tech. I grew up a fan of both programs and I will probably make a choice between those two."

Gooch wants to get a jumpstart on his college career and he's willing to do whatever it takes to see the field as soon as possible. "My goal is to graduate from high school early so I can enroll in college as soon as possible," said Jerrod. "Enrolling in the spring will allow me to have a better chance to play early."

The 6'5 285 pound lineman will be attending Texas' Junior Day this weekend. He will not be able to make it out to Tech's because it corresponds with a weight lifting meet.
