Coach Knight is looking at California PG

Donnell Beverly, 6-3 JR PG Lawndale (Calif.) Leuzinger, played in the shadow of Russell Westbrook this past season. Now that Westbrook has moved on to UCLA, Beverly is starting to receive a lot of attention, including some interest from Red Raider coach Bob Knight.

Now, Donnell Beverly hopes to follow in Russell Westbrook's footsteps. Like Westbrook, Beverly is something of a late-bloomer and he hasn't received much early recruiting attention . But Beverly has improved significantly in the last year and we expect him to get a lot of attention this summer.

We spoke with Beverly over the weekend and asked about the programs he's heard from so far.

"Illinois, Kent St., San Diego, Santa Clara and Texas Tech -- those are the main ones showing interest," said Beverly.

When questioned about the things he'll be looking at when choosing a school, Beverly said, "the offense -- I like a fast break system," said Beverly. "And the academics -- my parents are concerned about that. I'm not sure about location, but my parents might want me to stay close."

We asked Beverly if he sees himself making an early choice.

"I'm going to take my time, like Russell did," said Beverly. "He had some of the same schools last year this time that I do, but he waited and ended up hearing from the ACC, Pac-10 and other schools."

Beverly said a local school was his favorite when he was growing up.

"UCLA was my dream school," said Beverly.
