Red Raiders Close Week with Annual Tradition

Texas Tech capped off Thursday's workout with the annual watermelon feed and will take a well-deserved day off Friday, before resuming practice Saturday. The Red Raiders open the season a week from Saturday against SMU at Jones AT&T Stadium at 6 p.m. CT.

The Red Raiders split their workout Thursday between the grass practice fields and the turf of Jones AT&T Stadium. The team worked out in helmet and shoulder pads and ran through its regular routine.

Texas Tech football fans will have the opportunity to meet and greet their favorite Red Raider players and coaches Friday at Jones AT&T Stadium. Members of the 2006 Red Raider football team and staff will be available at the free event at 7:15 p.m. to sign autographs and pose for photographs with Red Raider fans of all ages on the new FieldTurf.

A limited number of posters and markers will be available, but Tech fans are encouraged to bring their own items to be autographed by members of the team.

"This is something we are really looking forward to," head coach Mike Leach said. "I have always maintained that Texas Tech has the best fans in the Big 12. The players, coaches and I are looking forward to visiting with them Friday night."

Fans are encouraged to park on the west side of Jones AT&T Stadium and enter the stadium through the Gate 1 at the southwest corner.

There will be no admission charge for the event. For additional information, fans should contact the Texas Tech Athletic External Operations Office at (806) 742-1195 or the Athletic Media Relations Office at (806) 742-2770.
