Wednesday Practice Report

The Texas Tech Red Raiders (4-2, 1-1) practiced in helmets and shoulder pads Wednesday for over two hours continuing to prepare for Saturday's road meeting with Colorado (0-6, 0-2) at Folsom Field in Boulder.

Today's special teams section of practice was devoted to the kickoff and punt units, who faced a strong north to south wind that featured gust close to 20 mph. Kicking from the north end, kickoff specialist Keith Toogood used the wind to send several kicks deep into the opposite endzone.

During today's scout team portion, the defense continued to develop the schemes they will use against the Buffaloes on Saturday. The Colorado offense averages 157.7 yards rushing per game and is led by running back Hugh Charles who leads the team with 385 yards on the ground through six games so far this season. The first-team defense was especially stingy today however, led by safety Joe Garcia, who came away with two interceptions.

The brief team period of practice was highlighted by senior wide receiver Joel Filani, who had a pair of 15-yard receptions in tight coverage near the sideline.

The Red Raiders will practice again on Thursday, for the last time this week, finalizing the gameplan for what will be their third conference match-up of the 2006 season. Tech holds the series lead 4-3 over the Buffaloes, but heads to Boulder looking for the program's first ever win at Folsom Field. Saturday afternoon's kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. and will be broadcast across the Texas Tech Radio Network.
