Wednesday Practice Report

The Texas Tech Red Raiders (5-3, 2-2) practiced in shells again on Wednesday, furthering their preparations for Saturday's meeting with the No.4-ranked Texas Longhorns (7-1, 4-0) at Jones AT&T Stadium here in Lubbock. Come inside as RaiderPower.com recaps some of the highlights from Wednesday's practice.

Highlights from today's practice:

-Today's special teams period was used to work on field goals, kickoffs and kickoff returns. For the second consecutive day, the specialists went up against a strong wind that reached gusts close to 30 mph.

-Receiver Jarrett Hicks had another solid day of practice, hauling in a number of passes, including a one-handed catch behind a defender in the center of the endzone.

-The defense ruled today's live team action, as defensive backs Darcel McBath and Chris Parker broke up passes and the defensive line sustained consistent pressure.

-The main offensive highlight during the brief team set came when running back Shannon Woods burst through the middle of the line for a 20-yard scamper on a draw play.

The Red Raiders will practice again on Thursday for the final time this week in preparation for what will be the 56th ever meeting between the two schools. Tech last defeated the Longhorns in 2002 by a score of 42-38 in Lubbock. Saturday evening's kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. and will be broadcast nationally on TBS.
