Gerald Jones: "Texas Tech is my #1"

Gerald Jones, the #2 recruit from Oklahoma for the class of 2007, has garnered scholarship offers from some of the nation's best football programs, including offensive juggernaut Texas Tech. First on his list of official visits were the Red Raiders, who hosted UT this past weekend. caught up with this outstanding athlete on his way home from Lubbock after his official visit.

With his speed, strength, and overall athleticism, 4-star running back/ quarterback Gerald Jones would be a huge commit for Texas Tech. The Red Raiders, who are recruiting Jones as a running back, are high on his list because he is impressed with the coaching staff and sees Tech's unique offense as giving him lots of opportunities to put the ball in his hands and make big plays.

Gerald had this to say about his visit to Texas Tech. "Man, I loved every bit of it. Like Tramain mentioned, the fans were even chanting our names when we were on the field. They wanted to shake our hands and meet us, which was real cool."

Jones thought the atmosphere at the game was incredible, and he was rooting for the Red Raiders to pull out the win. "I can't believe some of those calls though. That pass interference and the bad spots were just horrible calls. I just couldn't believe it."

One factor in Jones' decision is teammate and good friend Tramain Swindall, who is solidly committed to Texas Tech. "Tramain going to Tech is a big deal to me. We are best friends and I would like to go to the same school as him. On the other hand though, what's best for Tramain may not be the best for me, so I need to make sure I make the best decision for myself."

As part of that decision-making process, Gerald plans on making the rest of his official visits. He informed us that he will be visiting Tennessee November 3, followed by Virginia Tech on November 10 and Notre Dame on November 17. "For my 5th visit, I was thinking about Florida, but I haven't heard from them in a while, so my 5th visit is still up in the air."

Although Jones didn't commit over the weekend, he enthused, "Texas Tech is the place for me. They are definitely my #1 school." That's music to Red Raider fans' ears.
