Miami found out yesterday that their first choice for the new head coaching job, Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano, turned down Miami, stating "I told [Miami] at the time that Rutgers is where I am going to be and Rutgers is where I want to be."
After word came out that Schiano was not interested, Miami moved to their #2 guy, Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach.
Mike Leach was in New York for the College Football Hall of Fame induction ceremonies on Monday, when Miami's athletic director Paul Dee decided to head on up to the Big Apple to talk with him about the job.
Mike Leach, along with his agent, met with Paul Dee for multiple hours Monday evening. Miami's current defensive coordinator Randy Shannon was also in attendance for the meetings.
The way things are shaping up, it looks like Miami is trying to work out a deal where they bring Mike Leach on as the new head coach and offensive coordinator, as well as retain Randy Shannon as the defensive coordinator.
This all couldn't have come at a worst time, as current Texas Tech co-offensive coordinator Sonny Dykes has accepted the position as the new offensive coordinator for Arizona. Coach Dykes will be heading up to Arizona sometime in the next few days to meet with his new team and start working the recruiting trail.
