Dawson Preparing for Minnesota

As the Red Raiders prepare to square off against the University of Minnesota, Keyunta Dawson talks with RaiderPower about their expectations for the Golden Gophers. Dawson also discusses the play of his younger defensive linemen and the impact that they have had and will have on the Red Raider defensive line for years to come.

Defensive end Keyunta Dawson has been Texas Tech's premier pass rusher for the last two seasons. He caped off his regular season career at Texas Tech with 60 tackles, 6 sacks, and 1.5 tackles for loss. After one of the practices leading up to bowl preparations, I was able to ask him a few questions about Minnesota and the freshmen defensive linemen.

Keyunta and the rest of the team has been spending hours in the film room to help prepare them for the showdown in Phoenix. This extra time spent preparing for Minnesota has helped Dawson pick up on a few things about their offense.

"They have a big line and like to run the ball," said Dawson. "They do some play action and [such] so we are just going to try to get to our edge and work their tackles a little bit."

This would follow the modus operandi of Dawson and the other defensive linemen as they posted 29 sacks, an improvement over last years pass rush.

Dawson also spoke about the play of the true freshmen defensive linemen, who have provided much needed depth and playing time to a unit at the beginning of the season that might have been considered by some to be short on depth.

Key pointed out Brandon Williams Freshman All American status and feel like they have the potential to be very good.

"They (Henley, Jones, Ward, and Williams) just came out and have always worked hard since they got on campus. I feel like they were a great addition to this team and could be a force on the defensive line for years to come."
