Knight receives first 2008 committment

Coach Knight will be bringing in his most talented class to date this coming fall, but that doesn't mean he isn't out working to snatch up more top players for the class of 2008. Wednesday afternoon the Texas Tech coaching staff received a phone call from Corbin Ray out of Katy, TX confirming his commitment to the Red Raiders.

SF Corbin Ray out of Taylor High School in Katy, TX has been recruited hard by Texas Tech, Texas A&M, and Baylor. Today, he decided where he will be heading to continue his basketball career.

"I called the Texas Tech coaches and committed earlier today," said Corbin.

Corbin's commitment marks the first for the class of 2008.

Measuring 6'8 and weighing 210 pounds, Corbin will provide mismatches all over the court for the opposition with his height and shooting ability.

"I'm a good shooter," said Corbin. "I have a good eye for finding the open man."

Coach Knight's teams have always run the motion offense and that will not be changing. His offense is seen less and less as the years go by, but that doesn't mean high school prospects aren't attracted to his fundamental style of play.

"I really like Coach Knight's coaching style," said Corbin. "He is a great coach and I know I can learn a lot from him."

Another perk for Corbin is that he will have family in close proximity to him while he is in Lubbock.

"I have family that lives about 15 minutes from Lubbock, near New Deal. It makes it easier knowing I have family close by."
