New offer extended

The Red Raiders are always looking to add talented young men along the defensive line. The 2008 recruiting class is no different. The Texas Tech coaching staff is out recruiting some of the top players in the state of Texas, and yesterday they extended an offer to a very athletic defensive end out of the Austin area. RaiderPower.com has the latest on the Red Raiders' newest offer.

Lexington High School standout Andrew Wolridge is beginning to turn a few heads in the recruiting world.

Recently Andrew attended a Scout.com combine in Dallas, and the quick defensive end wasted no time showing attendees what he is capable of doing.

After weighing in at 6'2 and 225 pounds, Wolridge wowed scouts by running a 4.68 forty and hitting the 33.6" mark on his vertical jump.

Once news of his great combine performance was released, his recruitment really began to pick up.

"I'm up to a total of 5 offers now. Baylor, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Duke, and Texas Tech just offered me today."

Wolridge had been hoping for an offer from the Red Raiders, so the call he received from Lubbock made his day.

"Coach Sadler called me and told me that Tech was going to offer me," said an excited Wolridge. "I should be receiving it in the mail tomorrow [Friday]."

With the steady success of Texas Tech, the recent improvements to Jones Stadium, and their new state-of-the-art practice facility, Andrew is very impressed with what Tech has to offer.

"Tech has a really good winning tradition and their facilities are nice. I haven't visited the campus yet, but I went online and everything looked really nice."

So when can we expect to find out where Wolridge will be spending his collegiate years?

"I want to commit sometime before next football season," said Wolridge. "I plan on visiting all my top 5 schools and then making a decision sometime after."

As of now, Wolridge plans on taking his visit to Lubbock sometime in June.
