Epperson names a leader

For the past three seasons Brownsboro LB Ryan Epperson has terrorized offenses in East Texas with his brutal combination of size, speed and superior technique. Scout.com caught up with the talented linebacker to get the latest scoop on his recruitment.

Ryan Epperson, the 6'1 215 pound linebacker with 4.65 speed has started for the Bears the past 4 seasons and was an anchor on last year's Regional Finalist squad that finished 10-4.

Epperson who boasts a bench press of 300 pounds and a squat max of 500 pounds earned District Newcomer of the year honors at LB back in 2004. In 2005 Ryan was named District Defensive MVP along with honorable mention all-state. Ryan who also spends time at FB notched 175 tackles, and 6 sacks in 2006 was named first team all-East Texas and second team all-state.

Besides starring on the gridiron Epperson is also a key contributor for the Bears baseball team where he plays catcher.

"My biggest strength is my awareness and that I have a nose for the ball, this off-season I am looking to work on my speed mainly," said the Brownsboro LB.

Ryan's top schools include Texas Tech, TCU, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, and Colorado, all who have shown interest in the star linebacker out of East Texas.

"Right now Texas Tech is my favorite, I just loved the school when I visited," said Epperson.

Epperson this summer has a busy slate planned. Look for the Brownsboro senior to be at a mini-camp at Texas A&M along with playing summer baseball and 7 on 7.

"Academics will be important to me along with program prestige and a chance at playing time," replied the future Kinesiology major.

Don't look for a decision from Ryan until after the 2007 season however as Ryan plans on focusing on leading his young Bears teammates back to the playoffs in 2007.
