Tech Lands Another

The Red Raiders landed another commitment Monday evening from one of the top safety prospects in the state of Texas. Cody Davis out of Stephenville HS called Coach Leach this evening to give him the good news. RaiderPower.com caught up with the 6'3, 205 pound prospect as well as his high school coach to bring you the latest scoop on the newest Red Raider.

Stephenville safety Cody Davis has decided to end his recruitment early and has made a pledge to Texas Tech.

"I called Coach Leach about an hour ago and committed," said an excited Davis.  "It feels good to get this out of the way so I can concentrate on playing my senior season.  It's a big stress relief."

Davis took time out of his busy schedule to visit Lubbock to meet with the coaches and to take in the beautiful Texas Tech campus.

"I really enjoyed the coaching staff on my visit," said the 6'3, 205 pound safety.  "The whole situation just felt good, and I have a good chance at playing time."

S Cody Davis plans to make an instant impact in Lubbock

One quick look at the Tech depth chart gives a clear picture into what Cody is referring to.  The Red Raiders will have 2 upperclassmen playing safety next year in Darcel McBath and Joe Garcia, which will give Cody the chance to make an impact early on.

Davis is a big, hard-hitting safety and is not afraid to lay the wood.  Stephenville Coach Chad Morris is happy to have Davis on his sideline and had nothing but positive remarks to make about his defensive superstar.

"He's a very physical player," said Morris.  "He's an impact player, and he'll be a difference maker at the next level for Texas Tech.  I'm happy for Cody and his family and I think he'll be a good fit in Lubbock."

Not only is Davis an incredible athlete that excels on the gridiron, he also gets it done in the classroom.  He boasts a 4.72 GPA on a 5.0 scale and also scored a 1310 on his SAT during his junior year in high school.

Besides Texas Tech, Davis currently holds offers from Ole Miss, Duke, Baylor, SMU, Houston, and Vanderbilt.
