Pro: Signed a three-year contract as an undrafted rookie free agent by the Vikings following the 2007 draft.
Positives: Experienced punter, beginning as a true freshman and four consecutive years at the major college level. Good size and bulk. Excellent leg strength. Can drive the ball deep and high. Made his senior campaign his best and could still have some upside potential. Might be able to handle kickoffs.
Negatives: Somewhat inconsistent. Still refining his accuracy and placement with punts. Did not kick off in college.
Summary: Reyes has earned praise from head coach Brad Childress in mini camp and OTA sessions. His leg strength has been apparent, both on punts and kickoffs. If he can consistently put his kickoffs into the endzone, he could have a real chance to beat out Kluwe, because kickoffs are not placekicker Ryan Longwell's strong suit. However, like any rookie, he will have to demonstrate consistency when things start happening in live game action.
What they said:
"I want to be in the top 5-7 kicking, but I want to be good at everything. I want a good net average and to pin the other team deep. A lot of kickers might kick it into the end zone for numbers, but I want to take care of all of the little nuances. There are a lot of things that make a kicker great, and that's what I want to accomplish." – Reyes
"Has a big leg and that will get him a look. The type who might need to bounce around and hone his game for a while." – Scott Wright, NFL Draft Countdown
