Red Raiders lose backup DE

The Red Raiders were thin at defensive line, and it appears that things are going to get worse. One of Texas Tech's top backups was released from the team this past week and won't be returning for the remainder of the 2007 season. Come inside to find out who it is and get all the latest info regarding the situation.

RaiderPower has learned that DE Phillip Jones was released from the team this past week.

Jones was ruled ineligible to play because of an academic issue that wasn't resolved over the summer. Although we can't get into the details of exactly what happened, we can tell you that he will be out for the remainder of the 2007 season.

This isn't the end of the road for Jones though, and he is determined to get back in good standing. Even though he won't be on scholarship for the fall and spring semesters, Jones has decided to continue at Texas Tech and just pay his own way through school.

Things like this happen, and have happened to several Tech players in the past. The trick is to make sure once you fall down, you hold your head up and get things corrected as soon as possible.

It sounds like Phillip is doing just that.
