Crabtree named Big 12 Player of the Week

Texas Tech fresman wide receiver Michael Crabtree was named Big 12 Player of the Week for his impressive performance against Rice on Saturday.

Irving, Texas - Michael Crabtree (Texas Tech), Brandon Foster (Texas), and Bret Culbertson (Iowa State) have been named Big 12 Conference Players of the Week as selected by a media panel. Crabtree (offense) is recognized for the first time, while Foster (defense) is honored for the second time in as many weeks, garnering special teams accolades last week, and Culbertson (special teams) is selected for the second time in his career (November 22, 2004).

Offensive Player of the Week

Michael Crabtree, Fr, WR, Texas Tech (Dallas, Texas) Redshirt freshman Michael Crabtree set Big 12 freshman and Texas Tech freshman records with 244 receiving yards in the Red Raiders' 59-24 victory at Rice. Crabtree grabbed 11 receptions, including three TD catches in the game. He leads the nation with 12.67 catches per game, and ranks second nationally averaging 179.3 receiving yards a contest.

Defensive Player of the Week

Brandon Foster, Sr, CB, Texas (Arlington, Texas) Brandon Foster tallied seven tackles, four solo, returned an interception for a touchdown and recovered a fumble in Texas' 35-32 win at Central Florida. His 33-yard interception return broke a 10-all tie late in the second quarter. Earlier that quarter he recovered a fumble at the UCF 10-yard line.

Special Teams Player of the Week

Bret Culbertson, Sr, PK, Iowa State (Des Moines, Iowa) Bret Culbertson connected on a school record tying five field goals in Iowa State's 15-13 upset win over in-state rival Iowa. In accounting for all of ISU's points, Culbertson was true on five of six attempts, hitting from 21, 33, 42, 40, and the game-winner with 0:01 left from 28 yards out.
