Daniel Cobb is a perfect fit

With the impending loss of Darcell McBath and the recent departure of Joe Garcia, the Red Raiders are looking to restock at the safety position. Daniel Cobb, out of Ellison High School, is a gifted athlete who is a perfect fit for the Texas Tech defense. Ellison High head coach Buddy McBryde spoke with RaiderPower.com about his player's recent commitment to Texas Tech.

A 6'1", 205 lbs. who runs a 4.5 40, Daniel Cobb has the physical tools needed to play for a reinvogorated Red Raider defensive unit who play fast and aggressively.

When asked about how Cobb will fit into the Red Raider D, Coach McBryde feels confident that his talented player will be a big contributor. "I feel that he might be able to play immediately."

Cobb, a three-year starter who gained accolades as an All-District safety and kick returner, sees playing time on all three sides of the ball, playing running back on offense, safety and defensive back on defense, and punt and kick returner on special teams.

Coach McBryde noted that Texas Tech is recruiting him as a safety, although he explained, "I also very definitely think he could see time at the collegiate level as a punt returner." As a junior, he led the Eagles in interceptions and was second in tackles.

He is also a standout in the classroom, boasting a 3.3 GPA and a score of 27 on the ACT.

According to McBryde, "Daniel's strengths are his aggression and speed," two things that newly appointed defensive coodinator Ruffin McNeill is stresses to his players.

Cobb also holds offers from Houston, Georgia Tech, and Arkansas.
