DL Jonathan Hollins Recommits to Texas Tech

It's been a long time coming, but defensive lineman Jonathan Hollins is ready make good on his commitment to become a Red Raider. The talented College of the Caynons DL was recently extended an offer by the Texas Tech coaching staff, and he was happy to give his verbal commitment.

Jonathan Hollins, a defensive lineman for College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, CA, originally committed to Texas Tech in 2006, but because of eligibility issues, never made it to Lubbock. Now with his grades in order and a few years of experience under his belt, Hollins is ready to be a Red Raider.

"I have given my verbal commitment to Texas Tech. My plans are to play at the College of the Canyons next year and graduate in December and then move to Lubbock," Hollins explained.

At 6'3", 273 lbs., Hollins has added quite a bit of weight since his senior year in high school and has set some very big goals for himself.

"I have my eyes set on being an All-American and one of the best defensive linemen in the country."

So what was it that made him decide to resign with Texas Tech?

"I've always had a good relationship with Texas Tech. We've stayed in constant contact since I first signed with them."

Hollins chose Texas Tech because he believes that the program is a great fit for his skills and one of the best in the country.

"Texas Tech is an up and coming program. The coaches are really doing a great job, and they're recruiting a lot of talented players."

The level of familiarity with the program also helped Hollins' in making his decision.

"Coach Dennis Simmons and Sonny Dykes originally recruited me, but I've talked a lot ot all of the coaches. The coaches at Texas Tech are family."

He's also stayed apprised of the changes going on in Lubbock and is excited to play for Defensive Coordinator Ruffin McNeill.

"Coach Ruff is doing a great job of stepping up and taking over the defensive coordinator position."

Hollins will have a redshirt year and two years of eligibility remaining.
