Dion Chidozie becomes 9th Red Raider of 2009

OLB Dion Chidozie out of Bishop Lynch High School was excited to receive an offer from Texas Tech last week and gave his verbal commitment to Coach McNeill yesterday. RaiderPower caught up with him to get the scoop on why he chose Texas Tech and what his plans are.

After receiving an offer from Texas Tech last week, it didn't take Dion Chidozie long to make his decision to become the 9th Red Raider commit. The 6'1", 190 lb. OLB out of Bishop Lynch High in Dallas felt confident that Lubbock is the right place for him.

What was it about Texas Tech that stood out from his other offers, which include Stanford, Army, Air Force, and Louisiana Tech?

"When Texas Tech offered me, it was really big for me. It's just the type of school that I want to go to and the type of team I want to play for," Dion explained.

Chidozie is confident that he will be successful at Texas Tech and knows what his strengths are.

"I think the biggest thing I bring to the table is my pass rush. With Texas Tech running a spread offense, I think that will help my pass rush be even more effective," he said.

Chidozie has not visited Texas Tech yet, but he and Coach Ruffin McNeill, who recruited him, have plans to get him here soon.

"I'm going to be making a visit to Lubbock at the end of the month," Dion let us know.

This spring, Chidozie is working hard during spring workouts to bring his game to the next level.

"We work out every day, Monday through Friday. I am concentrating on working on pass drops and opening up my hips because we are changing our scheme next year."

With his commitment, Chidozie becomes the 7th defensive commitment for the Red Raiders 2009 class.
