Terry Hawthorne, out of East St. Louis Senior High (Illinois) may not have had a lot of exposure to West Texas, but Lubbock is one of his top destinations. The 4-star wide receiver has been offered by the Red Raiders and is planning on making a visit soon.

"I don't have a trip planned yet, but I will try to come up there during the summer or one of the games," Hawthorne informed us.

Will the long distance from Illinois to Lubbock factor into the talented receiver's decision?

"Distance isn't really a factor," Terry stated. "I just will choose where I feel like it's the best fit for me."

During his junior year, Terry had 45 receptions for 1,065 yards and 10 touchdowns. Teammate Kraig Appleton, who also holds an offer from the Red Raiders had an outstanding year as well, with 42 catches for 900 yards and 7 scores.

With both receivers holding offers from many of the same schools, lots of people are wondering whether the duo will commit together.

"It doesn't really matter which schools we commit to [as to where the other will commit.] We're just going to choose whichever school fits the best for us individually."

Terry has begun to narrow down his list of favorites, and the Red Raiders are definitely in the mix.

"Out of the schools that have offered me, Illinois, Arkansas, Arizona, and Texas Tech are on the list. Texas Tech is definitely in my top five."

Hawthorne has the ability to gain yards after the catch and turn short pass situations into touchdowns, two assets Mike Leach emphasizes in his pass-happy offense. His speed is also one of his greatest assets, as he boasts a 4.49-40 and 49.9 in the quarter mile.

When asked what he feels his greatest strengths are, Terry explained, "I would say going one-on-one with a defender and route running."
