Texas Tech in the Mix for #1 LB of 2009?

As the top linebacker in the nation and one of the top 5 prospects of 2009, Manti Te'o out of Punahou High School in Honolulu (HI) has a huge list of options in front of him. With ties to the Red Raider program, does Texas Tech have a shot at landing the phenomenal defender? Come inside to find out...

While talking to Trevor Reilly's father, Russ, this morning, RaiderPower.com learned that in addition to helping sway Sam Fehoko to come to Texas Tech, Trevor has talked with the #1 ranked linebacker in the class of 2009, Manti Te'o out of Honolulu, Hawaii.

"Trevor and Sam are also good friends with another linebacker from Hawaii, Manti Te'o," Russ stated. "They are trying to get him to come Texas Tech as well. It would be great to see all three of them playing together, but we'll just have to wait and see what happens."

Manti is also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and says, "I really want to serve and mission and it's always been a dream for not only myself, but for my family as well." Manti plans on enrolling in school for a year and then serving a mission.

Despite reports that he USC and BYU are heavy favorites, Manti said, "It's a pretty even playing field for all 29 schools right now." Te'o plans to narrow down his list at the end of the summer.

With Mike Leach's reputation for being extremely supportive of players who decide to delay enrolling in school to serve a religious mission, Texas Tech could very well be in the mix to land this big time recruit.

RaiderPower.com will keep you up to date with all of the latest on Te'o's recruitment.
