Check-In Day

The Red Raiders officially checked in on Sunday afternoon and are gearing up for the beginning of fall camp on Monday. RaiderPower was there to get the thoughts from the players and coaches as preparations for the 2008 season get underway.

News and Notes:

Superstar JuCo defensive linemen Brandon Sesay and McKinner Dixon are both officially here and ready to start practice tomorrow. Sesay was seen inside the training facility today and it appears that he could tackle a California Redwood tree, if he felt so inclined.

True freshman RB Harrison Jeffers will participate in fall camp and is eligible for the 2008 season. He has an uphill battle to fight to get playing time over Shannon Woods, Aaron Crawford, and Baron Batch, but it is a possibility.

The freshman offensive linemen are absolutely huge. Coach Leach has always liked tall and big linemen, but they are coming in bigger and bigger every year. Here are the numbers on the true freshmen:

Deveric Gallington - 6'4, 347
Terry McDaniel - 6'7, 323
Joe King - 6'6, 324

Quarterback Seth Doege, who had been plagued by knee injuries during his high-school career, looked not only completely healthy but appeared to have gained some serious muscle-mass during the off-season.

Marlon Williams is sporting a new look, having lost his trademark goatee. Williams was almost giddy with excitement at the prospect of practice Monday.

Texas Tech coach Lincoln Riley not only has new players to help shepherd during practice, but also his preferred walk-on brother, Garrett.

Kicker Donnie Carona will not have to add any weight before the 2008 season starts, looking more like a running-back than a place kicker. His athleticism could provide new options regarding trick plays during the '08 season.
