Lady Raiders Defeat Wyoming 84-64

The Texas Tech Lady Raiders (4-1) extended their winning streak to 4 games with a 84-64 victory over the Wyoming Cowgirls (4-2). Sophomore Cisti Greenwalt had a career high 26 points to lead the Lady Raiders to victory.

The Lady Raiders started the game in dominant fashion, by going on a 25-4 run to start the game. Texas Tech would never give up this lead. The Lady Raiders' defense was able to hold Wyoming to just 20 points in the first half. Texas Tech took a 44-20 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Raiders kept a comfortable lead. The defense did relax some late in the game, but the outcome was never in question. Texas Tech won by a final score of 84-64.

Offense

The Lady Raiders' offense had another impressive performance. This game showcased their ability to score in a half-court situation. Cisti Greenwalt had a career high 26 points to lead all scorers. Jia Perkins and Plenette Pierson both scored 14 points in the victory. The most impressive number in this victory was the Texas Tech shooting percentage. The Lady Raiders made 55.6% (35-65) of their shots in the game. Texas Tech shot 61.3% from the field in the first half. These numbers indicate that the Lady Raiders were able to create good scoring opportunities.

Defense

The Lady Raiders defense was dominated by shot blocking tonight. Texas Tech had 13 blocks in the game, 8 by Cisti Greenwalt. These shot blocks helped Texas Tech hold Wyoming to just 32.3% shooting for the game. Defensive rebounding was strong in this game. Texas Tech outrebounded Wyoming 32 to 11 on the defensive boards. The continued improvement of the Lady Raiders' defense is a good sign as they get closer to conference play. If the defense can catch up with the offense, this team will be a dangerous team in March.
