Red Raiders Fall to Wyoming 62-67

The Texas Tech Red Raiders (5-1) suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Wyoming (6-2). Wyoming won the game by a score of 67-62. Andre Emmett and Kasib Powell led all scorers with 20 points.

The first half was one of Texas Tech's worst offensive performances this season. Texas Tech scored just 22 points in the half. The Red Raiders' defense played well enough to keep the game close for most of the first half. Wyoming finished the half with a 6-0 run to give them a 30-22 lead at the half.

Wyoming slowly extended their lead in the second half. Their lead reached as high as 15 points before the Red Raiders were able to get their offense working. Texas Tech was able to shrink the lead to 5 points with 6:35 left in the game, but Wyoming answered with an 8-0 run to extend the lead back to 13. The Red Raiders would use an 8-0 run of their own to close the lead to 5 with just 1:25 left in the game. Texas Tech was unable to get any closer in the final minute. Wyoming won by a score of 67-62.

The exhibition game against Athletes First showed the problems that Texas Tech has when Andre Emmet isn't a big part of the offense. Tonight's game also highlighted these problems. This team is a totally different team when Emmett isn't shooting well. The offense did come to life late in the game when Emmet finally got his shot to start falling. Emmett finished with 20 points. Kasib Powell was the primary scorer for most of the game. Powell finished the game with 20 points. The Red Raiders need to have someone to help out Emmett and Powell on offense. With under a month until conference play starts, the Red Raiders don't have much time to fix this problem.

The Texas Tech defense played another solid game tonight. The Red Raiders had 9 steals in the game. The guards continue to do a good job applying pressure on the perimeter. Texas Tech continued to improve their rebounding. The Red Raiders out rebounded Wyoming 26 to 5 on the defensive boards. The defense has made some good improvements the last couple of games. I think they'll be one of the better defenses in the Big 12 when conference play starts.
