Red Raiders Face UTEP

Texas Tech's men's basketball team will face the UTEP Miners Wednesday in El Paso at 8 p.m. The Red Raiders are looking to get back in the win column after a disappointing 6 point loss to Lamar on Saturday.

Lubbock, TX -- The Red Raiders (7-2) travel to El Paso, Texas for Wednesday's game against the Miners of UTEP (4-4). Tip-off is at 8 PM Central. The game will not be televised.

Mark Finkner will call Wednesday's courtside action against the Miners along with analyst Corky Oglesby on the Texas Tech Sports Network local station KKAM-AM 1340.

Texas Tech and UTEP are meeting for the 49th time since January 31, 1931. Overall, the Red Raiders lead the series 35-13. In Lubbock, the Raiders have 21-4 advantage and they have a 14-9 margin when the teams have played in El Paso. Last season, Texas Tech topped UTEP at the United Spirit Arena, 75-68.

Texas Tech has five players averaging double figures for the season. John Roberson and Alan Voskuil are each averaging 15.3 points per game. Nick Okorie is next with 11.8 points per game. Mike Singletary, a starter in the last game, is averaging 11.8 points each game. Trevor Cook completes the group with 10.2 points per game.

UTEP has four wins and four losses for the season. The Miners have three wins and loss at home. They outpaced Texas Southern and Georgia Southern before dropping a home game to UNLV. The Miners beat St. Mary's College then lost to Wake Forest and Arizona State University in Anaheim, California before returning home to gain a win over Sam Houston state on December 6, 83-72. UTEP lost their last game, a 90-78 decision at New Mexico State on Sunday.

UTEP's Stefon Jackson leads his team in scoring with 21.9 points per game. Randy Culpepper follows with 19.8 points per game. Arnett Moultrie tops his squad with 7.5 rebounds per game.

Saturday, the Red Raiders return to their home court for the first time since their three-point win over the Wichita State Shockers, 72-69, on December 3, as they host the Lobos of New Mexico.

The game will begin at Noon (Central) with television coverage by the Texas Tech Television Network. In the Lubbock area, the game can be seen on KAMC-TV (ABC) while FSN Southwest will provide coverage to the rest of the state of Texas.

ESPN Full-Court is also scheduled to air the Texas Tech-New Mexico game. Saturday's game will also be available online via -- ESPN's signature broadband sports TV network.
