The cold shooting continued in the second half, but the Lady Raiders managed to take control of the game. Oregon State closed to within 4 points early in the second half. Texas Tech answered with an 8-2 run that would give them an insurmountable lead. Texas Tech won by a final score of 67-51.
Offensively this wasn't one of the Lady Raiders' best performances. The shooting did improve as the game went on, but Texas Tech never got into a good rhythm. Every team has games like these. The goal is to minimize the number of times it happens. The Lady Raiders have the scorers to keep this form happening too often. I expect to see better offensive performances in the next few games. Plenette Pierson led all scorers with 19 points. Jia Perkins was the only other player in double figures, with 14 points. Jolee Ayers seemed to be the only player to find her shot tonight. Ayers went 4 of 4 from the field, and finished with 8 points. Despite tonight's offensive performance, I am confident that the Lady Raiders still have the best offense in the Big 12.
Tonight's game was the type game where the defense gets tested. The Lady Raiders' defense passed the test tonight. Texas Tech held Oregon State to just 32.8% from the field. The defense played well in all areas. The Lady Raiders managed to get 14 steals. Jia Perkins led the team with 5, while Plenette Pierson had 4. Texas Tech also had 8 blocks. Cisti Greenwalt had another good game defensively with 5 blocks. This game demonstrates that the Lady Raiders' defense is good enough to win games when the offense has an off night.
