Texas Tech was able to take the lead early in the game, but the Lady Mocs managed to keep the game close throughout the first half. Tennessee-Chatanooga took a 1-point lead with just 22 seconds left in the first half. A last second 3-pointer by Miklannet Tennal gave the Lady Raiders a 36-34 halftime lead.
The Lady Raiders took control of the game in the second half. Strong defense allowed Texas Tech to stay ahead for the remainder of the game. Texas Tech won the game by a score of 66-53.
Texas Tech got off to another slow start offensively tonight. This is understandable considering their recent travel schedule. The offense started to work better in the second half. Texas Tech finished the night with a 46% field goal percentage. Plenette Pierson had another solid game, scoring 17-points to lead all scorers. Jia Perkins and Natalie Ritchie each scored 10 points. The most troubling aspect of tonight's game was the free throw shooting. Texas Tech made just 5 of 10 from the line. Texas Tech also needs to get to the line more often. The Lady Raiders had some problems with turnovers as well. 18 turnovers is more than I would like to see at this point in the season.
Texas Tech continued to improve defensively tonight. In the second half the Lady Mocs were only able to make 25% of their shots. Texas Tech was able to force the Lady Mocs into 19 turnovers. Jia Perkins, Plenette Pierson, an Jametra Clark each had 3 steals to lead the team. The Lady Raiders had 12 blocks in the game. Cisti Greenwalt continued her string of big games with 6 blocks tonight. The Lady Raiders' offense gets most of the attention, but the defense is starting to look very impressive. If the Texas Tech defense continues to play like this in conference play this could be one of the top defenses in the conference.
