Texas Tech got off to another good start today. The Red Raiders used strong defense to extend their lead throughout the first half. Texas Tech was able to take a 49-31 lead into halftime.
The Red Raiders were unable to maintain this lead in the second half. Texas Tech was ahead by 19 with 11:33 left, but a series of runs by the Aggies erased the Texas Tech lead. New Mexico State had a chance to tie this game when Allen Hayes was fouled with 2.5 seconds left. Hayes made the first free throw, but missed the second, giving Texas Tech the 85-84 victory.
The Red Raider offense played a good first half, but a bad second half today. Texas Tech has had a problem with decreasing offensive production in the second half this season. The Red Raiders need to play within the offense, especially when they are struggling with their shooting. Andre Emmet had another impressive game today. Emmet led all scorers with 31 points. Kasib Powell scored 20 points, while Pawel Storozynski scored 15.
The defense also suffered a letdown in the second half. After playing a good first half, in which they allowed just 31 points, the Texas Tech defense allowed 53 points in the sewcond half. Texas Tech needs to come out of halftime with higher intensity, even in games that they lead comfortably. Hopefully the team will learn from today's game. The coaching staff will have a week to work on this problem.
