Class of 2009 in the Books

By only 10:30 am on Wednesday morning, signing day had already come and gone for Texas Tech. All the players who had verbally committed to the Red Raiders have faxed in their letters of intent, with a few huge additions along the way. Come inside as recaps an eventful morning and one of Texas Tech's most successful signing days.

All the players who were verbally committed to Texas Tech have faxed in their letters of intent and are officially Red Raiders.

The big surprise of the day was the back to back faxes of defensive linemen Myles Wade and Pearlie Graves.

Wade had told on Tuesday that he would not be signing on Wednesday and planned to take one last visit to Nebraska before making a final decision.

It came as a surprise to everyone when Wade decided to fax in his LOI and forego his trip to Lincoln.

Graves, who was committed to Michigan, was considering Tech but was still seen as a long shot to end up anywhere besides Ann Arbor. After the tremendous news of Myles Wade's commit was being celebrated, Graves' fax came across and added to the excitement.

This class hit on several needs of the Red Raiders', especially on the defensive side of the ball. They signed a total of 6 players in the secondary and 6 defensive linemen, highlighted by last minute signees Wade and Graves.

The trio of safeties in Will Ford, Terrence Bullitt, and Daniel Cobb will provide some much needed help in the backfield with the graduation of Darcel McBath, Anthony Hines, and Daniel Charbonnet.

On the offensive side of the ball, Tech signed 2 great playmakers in 4 star prospects QB Jacob Karam and WR Eric Ward.

Ward began classes in Lubbock back in early January and will be participating in Spring Practice.

The coaching staff also brought in a few blue chip offensive linemen in Kyle Clark and Joel Gray.

Trevor Reilley, who is currently serving an LDS mission in Sweden, will fax in his LOI in March once he returns.

Today's signing day has to be seen as an enormous success. Tech was able to keep all of their commits and also sign two more that were unexpected coming into the day.
