Lady Raiders Soar Past Southern Miss, 86-62

The Texas Tech Lady Raiders (8-1) extended their winning streak to 8 games with an 86-62 victory over the Southern Mississippi Lady Eagles (6-5). Sophomore Cisti Greenwalt led all scorers with 21 points. Greenwalt also had a career high 11 rebounds.

Sothern Mississippi was able to keep the game close for the first 10 minutes of the game.  Then The Lady Raiders used an 18-7 run to create a lead that they would never relinquish.  Texas Tech led 86-62 at the half.

Texas Tech continued to pull away in the second half.  Southern Miss was able to go on a late run to narrow the final margin.  Texas Tech won by a final score of 86-62.

This was the best offensive performance in the past 4 games for the Lady Raiders.  Cisti Greenwalt led the way with 21 points.  Jia Perkins scored 20 points, while Natalie Ritchie scored 11 points.  It was good to see the Lady Raiders' offense have a good game without a big contribution from Plenette Pierson.  This shows how tough it will be to shut down Texas Tech.  It would be great if Greenwalt could continue to improve, giving the Lady Raiders another threat in the low post.

The Texas Tech defense continues to improve.  The Lady Raiders forced Souther Miss into 21 turnovers, which helped the Texas Tech offense to a productive day.  Jia Perkins, Plenette Pierson, and Jametra Clark each had 2 steals.  Cisti Greenwalt had another good defensive game with 5 blocks.  The shot blocking ability of Greenwalt really allows the Texas Tech defense to apply pressure to the perimiter players.
