San Antonio WR Impressed with Red Raiders

At 6'3", 210 pounds, Nate Askew, the standout wide receiver from James Madison High School in San Antonio, has caught the attention of college recruiters around the nation. In addition to schools like Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, and Houston, the Red Raiders have Askew on their list of potential targets. Come inside to see what Nate had to say of his recent visit to Lubbock.

San Antonio WR Nate Askew finished his junior season with 51 catches for 933 yards and nine touchdowns, and his combination of size, speed, and play making ability, he has been turning quite a few heads in the recruiting world.

He was in Lubbock over the weekend for Texas Tech's Junior Day and was pleased with his visit.

"Everything went really good. I think Texas Tech is a good school. I really liked the campus and the school. The facilities there seemed really good too.

"I liked the coaches and the atmosphere was good. It was my first time to Lubbock, and I'd have to get used to Lubbock because there's nothing really out there. I'm used to being in the middle of everything and living in the city, so that would definitely be different."

Nate is especially intrigued by Tech's high flying offense, which has led the nation in passing yards for the past two years.

"I think I'd fit in good at Texas Tech. They throw the ball a lot, and I like how spread the ball out. I mean, they led the nation in passing yards, so they definitely let play makers make big plays."

With early offers from Houston and Florida State, Askew says he is also hearing quite a bit from schools like Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma, and Baylor. The talented wide out has not yet received an offer from the Red Raiders, but he is hopeful one will be coming soon.

"I think Texas Tech is pretty interested in me. They want to come down and see me practice in the spring. Coach McNeill is planning on coming down to watch me play."

For now, Nate is focused on improving his game, and he says that he's been taking notes on former Red Raider All-American Michael Crabtree.

"I'm working to improve my speed and route running. I've watched Texas Tech a lot. Michael Crabtree is my favorite receiver, so I try to watch him and the way he runs his routes and just learn from him."

As far as which schools are at the top of his list, Askew has not begun to narrow things down just yet, although he'd like to be done with the recruiting process by the end of the summer.

"I don't really have any favorites right now. I'm just trying to take it a day at a time. I think I'd like to commit before I start my senior season just so I can be focused on football and doing the best I can next year."
