Lady Raiders Tame Tigers, 76-45

The Texas Tech Lady Raiders (11-1) used an impressive defensive performance against the Pacific Tigers (3-9) to extend their winning streak to eleven games. Senior Plenette Pierson led the Lady Raiders with 15 points in their final non-conference game of the season.

The first half was played in a fairly slow fashion.  Pacific used lots of zone defense to try and slow down the potent Lady Raider offense.  The Texas Tech defense did its part, holding Pacific to just 26 points in the first half.  Texas Tech took a 36-26 lead into the half.

The Lady Raiders took over the game in the second half.  Texas Tech puleed away early and never looked back.  The Lady Raiders won the game by a final score of 76-45.

The Lady Raiders had another balnced game on offense, with all five starters almost scoring in double figures.  Plenette Pierson led the team with 15 points.  Jia Perkins added 14 points.  Erin Grant and Natalie Ritchie both scored 10 points.  Grant also had 9 assists in the game.  With conference play about to start, the Texas Tech offense has shown that it can score against any type of defense.

The Lady Raider defense had a big game following a subpar performance in their last outing.  Texas Tech held Pacific to just 45 points in the entire game, and 19 for the second half.  The defense did a much better job, forcing 23 turnovers.  Erin Grant led the way with 3 steals.  Cisti Greenwalt contributed 4 blocks to the defensive effort.  It's good to see the younger players stepping up their games on the defensive end.  Grant and Greenwalt need to play big roles on this defense if Texas Tech is going to win the Big 12 title.  Rebounding was also solid on the defensive end.  Texas Tech outrebounded Pacific 29 to 10 on the defensive glass.  LaToya Davis led all rebounders with 9 rebounds (7 defensive).  Davis grabbed these rebounds in just 17 minutes of play.
