Simek Narrowing Things Down

Denton Simek, a 6'4", 270 pound offensive lineman from Prague, Oklahoma, has begun narrowing his list down in hopes of making a final decision before football season begins. Did the Red Raiders make the cut? Come inside to find out...

With a list of close to 20 scholarship offers, Prague, OK offensive tackle Denton Simek has the option to play in any of the nation's best conferences. But the Big 12 holds a slight edge for Simek, who says he grew up hoping to play in the conference.

"I've always grown up around the Big 12 and it would be cool to play in that league, but it's not like I have to play in that league. That's not a huge factor."

Four of his top six schools are in the Big 12, meaning it's likely Simek will get his childhood wish.

"I like Nebraska, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Arizona and Louisville," Simek said. "[They're] all great schools and they all have good coaching staffs. It's just where I'll be most comfortable is what I'm looking for."

Denton, who plays both offense and defense for the Red Devils, is being looked at to play multiple positions at the next level.

"I've heard from some schools they like me at both tackle and guard, and some like me on the defensive line. I'm pretty sure Arizona and Arkansas like me on defense and Nebraska likes me on offense. It doesn't matter to me, I think I could play all three."

So what qualities does the versatile 6'4, 260 pound athlete possess that have so many schools vying for his services?

"I can run and pass block equally good, that's what the coaches tell me they like about me. I never quit on a play and I always try to beat up my opponent. Just play relentless, that's all I know how to do."

Over the summer, Simek has taken unofficial visits to Nebraska, Texas Tech, OSU, and Arizona, which helped him trim his list. But he's still not quite ready to make a final decision.

"I'd like to make a decision before the season. If I'm still not comfortable with where I've been then I'll start taking visits to places."

And what will that decision most likely come down to?

"The coaches are the most important thing to me. I want to play for a really good staff that knows what their doing. I want to play for a team that wants to get better everyday, always striving to be better. I think that is important at every level of football. You can never be satisfied with where you're at, you always need to improve. That's how I think so I want to be around people that think the same way.

"Academics (3.8 GPA) are big too. I want a degree in sports management or sports business, maybe be and agent one day, or possibly a physical trainer or some kind of sports medicine, I'm not sure just yet." will keep you posted on Simek's progress throughout the summer and where the Red Raiders stand.
