Lady Raiders Roll Over Cowgirls, 95-45

The Texas Tech Lady Raiders (15-1, 4-0) extended their win streak to 15 games with a victory over the Oklahoma State Cowgirls (5-10, 1-3). Point guard Erin Grant led the Lady Raiders to victory with 12 points and 11 assists.

Oklahoma State used a 4-0 run to bring the score to 7-6 three minutes into the game.  The Lady Raiders responded with a 15-0 run to knock the Cowgirls out of the game early.  "We did a much better job of opening the game, and getting what we wanted early in our offense.  We got off to a really good start and just took off from there", said Head Coach Marsha Sharp.   Texas Tech spent the rest of the half increasing their lead.  Oklahoma State trailed 43-18 at the half.

The second half was more of the same, with Texas Tech continuing to expand the lead.  The Lady Raiders won by a final score of 95-45.

Offense

Today's game was one of the Lady Raiders' most dominant offensive performances of the season.  Jia Perkins led Texas Tech with 16 points.  Plenette Pierson scored 13 points in the game.  Freshman Chesley Dabbs scored a career high 11 points in just 12 minutes off the bench.  Erin Grant had her most impressive offensive performance yet.  Grant scored 12 points and had 11 assists.  Grant showed her importance to the Texas Tech offense by contributing to over one third of the Lady Raiders' offense in today's game.  The Lady Raiders had their best shooting performance of the season, making 62.5% of their shots.  The good shooting combined with 15 offensive rebounds allowed Texas Tech to control the offensive end of the court.  The Texas Tech offense is starting to peak at the perfect time.  Games in Austin and Boulder will be a great test for the Lady Raiders' offense.

Defense

The Lady Raiders' defensive effort was a major factor in their domination of Oklahoma State.  Texas Tech allowed just 18 points in the first half.  Trisha Skibbe, the Cowgirls' leading scorer, scored 12 of those points.  This game also allowed Texas Tech to run a zone for most of the second half.  Coach Sharp said "We got into a 2-3 zone for almost 20 minutes.  Hopefully it's something we can have in our arsenal in case we want to use it later".  This zone allowed Cisti greenwalt to record 4 blocks in just 8 minutes of second half play.  It will be interesting to see how Coach Sharp uses the zone defense in future games.
