Red Raiders Land Second RB of 2010

Texas Tech wrapped up another big commitment in running back Delans Griffin out of Clinton, OK. Griffin, who reports 4.4-40 speed and measures in at 5'11", 180 lbs., has both the hands and the speed to excel in the Red Raider offense. spoke with the talented prospect about his commitment and upcoming plans.

It's been a busy couple of weeks for the Red Raider coaching staff who, in addition to preparing for fall practices, have seen commitments pour in for the class of 2010. Oklahoma RB Delans Griffin is the newest addition to the list, as he made his intentions known to the Texas Tech coaching offices on Thursday.

"I've liked them for a while, so I decided to go ahead and commit. I actually called and talked to the coaches yesterday," Delans explained. "I decided to commit mainly because I like the coaches a lot and I feel like I fit in well with the offense."

Griffin committed despite not having seen Lubbock in person, but he says that he will definitely be taking a trip to the South Plains in the near future.

"I haven't visited yet, but I plan on visiting soon. We don't have a date set up, but it will definitely be sooner rather than later."

As a junior, Delans put up monster numbers, rushing for 1,962 yards and 33 touchdowns and gaining another 118 yards and 3 scores through the air despite missing three games. He is confident that his success at the high school level will continue once he suits up in the Red and Black.

"I think that I'll fit in really well with Texas Tech's offense. I like playing in the spread offense, and I can catch the ball as well as run it. I think that's an advantage I have to playing tail back; I can either run the ball out of the backfield or I can catch passes.

"Everybody is saying that I'm going to be able to come in and compete for playing time early. The coaches were telling me that, so I think there's a good chance that I could see the field pretty early."

Despite offers from Missouri, Arizona, Kansas, Kansas State, and Tulsa and interest from a plethora of other big name programs, Delans says that he is firm in his commitment to the Red Raiders.

"I'm pretty much done with recruiting. Once I commit somewhere, I'm committed."
