Arps to Decommit?

Defensive end Jaqwaylin Arps thought that he had wrapped up his recruitment fairly early when he committed to the Red Raiders after a visit this spring. However, a recent visit to Lawrence, Kansas seems to have him second guessing his decision. Will Jaqwaylin decommit? RaiderPower.com has the very latest…

After visiting Lubbock back in April, Denison defensive end Jaqwaylin Arps gave his verbal commitment to the Red Raiders and seemed very confident in his decision, stating that he was very doubtful any other schools could sway him.

Fast forward four months, and it appears that the Kansas Jayhawks have been able to do just that. After a recent visit to Lawrence, Jaqwaylin is having serious doubts about whether or not Tech is the right choice for him.

"I don't really know what my status is right now," Arps told us. "I was actually going to call Coach Jackson from Kansas and Coach Riley from Texas Tech and try to figure things out.

"It's just between Kansas and Texas Tech. Right now I would say that it's Kansas is over Tech, but I haven't made a final decision as to what I'm going to do yet."

What was it about his visit to KU that has Jaqwaylin doing a 180?

"To be honest with you, when I visited Kansas I liked it a little better than Tech. I just felt more comfortable there, and I liked the coaching staff better. It seemed like the coaches at Kansas were trying to be your friend more and the coaches at Tech were kind of trying to be your parents.

"Also, one of my [friends] is going to be going there, and so that makes me like Kansas a little better too. So with that and me feeling more comfortable there, I'm favoring Kansas."

Despite Kansas being clearly in the lead for his services, Arps says he will not make a final decision until he talks with the coaching staff from both schools.

"I'm probably going to call and talk to the coaches either tomorrow or Wednesday. I don't know for sure what I'm going to do yet; I'm just going to have to talk to the coaches from both schools and try to figure things out.

"I don't really know if there's anything that [the Tech coaches] could say that will make me change my mind at this point. I mean, we'll just have to see how things go."
