Damon Williams Excited about Upcoming Visit

Nimitz High School (Irving, TX) defensive end Damon Williams is one of the defenders the Red Raiders are hoping to put on the roster for the 2010 season. Williams, who will be visiting Texas Tech for the New Mexico game, spoke with RaiderPower.com about his upcoming visit.

Nimitz High School defensive tackle Damon Williams has offers from around the Big 12, including Nebraska, Kansas, Kansas State, Baylor, and Texas Tech. He's also got offers from Arkansas, Tulsa, and Houston and has been hearing from Arizona State, Oklahoma, and Notre Dame.

The 6'3", 300 pound lineman has been impressive so far his this season, recording 45 tackles on the season and helping the Vikings to a 4-1 start.

Williams, who so far has only taken an unofficial visit to Baylor, is set to make an official visit to Lubbock this weekend, where he will watch the Red Raiders take on the New Mexico Lobos.

"I'm supposed to arrive about 5 a.m. on Saturday morning," Williams told us.

At this point, Damon doesn't have a clear leader but says that the Red Raiders definitely stick out to him.

"I like that they're a big school," he explained. "I like that [Texas Tech] isn't too far away from home, and it's nice up there."

The coaches are another selling point for the talented tackle, who says that they are "nice guys and funny."

After cancelling an official visit to Nebraska in September due to time constraints, Damon says he plans to make good use of his travel options.

"I plan on using all five [official visits]. I'm not sure which schools I am going to visit yet, just Nebraska and Texas Tech." Williams says he doesn't have a timeline for making a decision yet and is fairly open to the recruiting process.

"I don't really have a top school or schools right now. I like pretty much everybody that has offered me. I'm just taking it day by day."
